Joint Declaration on Metrological Traceability Issued
The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC),
International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International
Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), and International
Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) issued a Joint Declaration
on Metrological Traceability on November 9, 2011.
This joint declaration builds on the tripartite statement issued
by ILAC, BIPM, and OIML on January 23, 2006, on the relevance of
various international agreements on metrology to trade,
legislation, and standardization.
The four international bodies responsible for metrology,
accreditation, and standardization worldwide encourage their
members and others for whom traceability is important to adopt the
policy and to declare their support for the principles and
practices embodied in the declaration wherever possible.
The declaration notes that the principles in the policy underpin
a world measurement system that provides a robust, internationally
accepted framework within which users can have confidence in the
validity and acceptability of measurement results.
